Discover competitors before you compare
Enter your own website first and choose Find 10 related competitors. GapForge samples your public pages, identifies the website type and subject, and suggests up to ten candidate domains. Where a live-search provider is configured, live related-domain results can be merged with the built-in niche catalog. Without a live provider, GapForge uses its detected topic and site type to select relevant catalog candidates.
What GapForge actually compares
GapForge runs two bounded public-HTML samples: one for your website and one for a competitor. It compares mechanical crawl and technical checks, content signals, title and heading vocabulary, content formats and internal-link patterns. It does not have access to the competitor's private Search Console, analytics, backlinks or conversion data.
The safest growth sequence
- Fix verified crawl and technical blockers on your own site.
- Improve important landing pages before creating many new pages.
- Review competitor weaknesses as a quality benchmark.
- Validate topic gaps with real user needs, Search Console data and search demand.
- Create original content that solves the user task better.
- Strengthen internal links from supporting content to the right destination pages.
- Measure impressions, clicks and conversions after each meaningful batch of changes.
Four gap types worth separating
| Gap type | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your weakness | Your sample shows a failed or review item. | Fix it before chasing new content volume. |
| Competitor weakness | The competitor sample shows a quality problem. | Make your equivalent experience cleaner and easier to use. |
| Research topic gap | A competitor term is absent from your sampled title/heading vocabulary. | Validate relevance and demand, then create original coverage if justified. |
| Your differentiator | Your sample contains a topic the competitor sample does not. | Protect and strengthen it if real performance data supports it. |
How GapForge supports SEO, AEO and GEO
SEO: compare crawlability, metadata, content coverage and internal discovery paths. AEO: identify where direct answers, FAQs and step-by-step guidance are missing. GEO: strengthen entity clarity, first-hand examples, trust pages, citations and original evidence instead of publishing generic copies.
Can this help traffic grow faster?
It can reduce wasted effort by showing what to investigate first. Faster improvement usually comes from fixing real blockers, focusing on a small number of important pages, validating high-fit gaps and measuring results. No competitor-gap tool can guarantee a ranking timeline or a percentage traffic gain.
FAQ
How many competitors should I compare?
Use the discovery list to shortlist up to ten candidates, but compare one at a time. Start with the closest audience/task match, then switch to the next candidate after you understand the first comparison.
Are the suggested ten competitors guaranteed to be the biggest sites?
No. They are research candidates, not a traffic-ranked Top 10. Live-search results can be merged when configured, while the fallback list comes from the detected niche catalog.
What if the competitor has a topic I do not have?
Do not automatically create a page. Check whether your audience needs it, whether the intent is distinct from your existing pages and whether there is real demand. If yes, build original coverage and connect it to the right part of your site.
What if both sites have the same weakness?
That is not an advantage yet. Fix your own version first. Once verified, you may turn it into an out-execution opportunity.
Should I create more pages than my competitor?
No. Page count is not a quality metric. Fewer strong pages with clear intent, useful internal links and original value can outperform a larger set of thin or repetitive URLs.
